We love to party! Luckily, we frequently find a suitable occasion. Here we have compiled a brief review of past events.
2022: 25 Years of VIX
The 25th anniversary of the Vienna Internet eXchange in 2021 could unfortunately not be celebrated properly due to the pandemic. However, on 24 June 2022, together with the ISPA (Internet Service Providers Austria), we made up for it even more extensively:
At the joint birthday party "25 years of ISPA and 25 (+1) years of VIX" in the spacious Vienna City Beach Club on the banks of the New Danube, around 400 guests found everything their hearts desired. The event started in the afternoon with aperitifs, snacks, ice cream and a comprehensive children's program. There were also games and sports facilities for young and old on the shore.
The evening included a dinner with live barbecue, a performance by the exceptional Austrian band Attwenger and a breathtaking pyro show. Afterwards, a DJ provided entertainment until late into the night. The splendid weather also played its part in ensuring that everyone present went home with a satisfied smile (see the photo gallery). We are very happy about this all-round successful celebration!
2016: 20 Years of VIX
On 23 June 2016, we celebrated "20 years of Vienna Internet eXchange" and "15 years of cooperation with Interxion" with a delicious barbecue and musical side dishes by DJ Walter Gröbchen and the fantastic band Edi Nulz. It was a great event on a bright summer day. All photos can be found in our photo gallery.
Many thanks to everyone who contributed to this pleasant celebration - especially to our partners and sponsors:
2015: VIX3 Opening
The official opening of the third VIX location in the Vienna data center of e-shelter (since June 2020: NTT) took place on 6 October 2015. First, the Vienna Internet eXchange and e-shelter informed about their current offers and plans. This was followed by the social part of the meeting, which was accompanied by an excellent buffet.
We thank all guests for coming and are very happy about the lively interest in our new location!
2015: 25 Years of Internet in Austria - net:25
In June 2015, ACOnet and the Vienna Internet eXchange celebrated the anniversary of "25 Years of Internet in Austria and 25 Years of ACOnet" with an event trilogy:
net:25 | net:future, net:science, net:art
At the "net:future" and "net:science" events in the Main Ceremonial Hall of the University of Vienna, renowned national and international experts gave outlooks on the future of the Internet in exciting presentations and panel discussions.
The event trilogy finally culminated in the interactive music and dance performance "net:art | near in the distance 2" at MuseumsQuartier Wien, which bridged the gap between performing arts and high-performance data networks.
Comprehensive reviews of these extraordinary events can be found on the website o ACOnet (net:future, net:science) and on the website of the net:art coordination center (net:art).
2013/14: The new Vienna Internet eXchange
On 11 December 2013, we invited participants, partners and interested parties to the "Launching the new VIX" event at Palais Ferstel, which was organised jointly with Interxion. After a presentation of the new VIX hardware, the successful upgrade was celebrated with snacks & drinks. Then we moved to the Charity Christmas Market at Freyung, where everyone could warm up with punch and mulled wine and donate to a good cause at the same time. The evening was very communicative and overall very successful. Thanks to all guests for their participation!
2011: 15 Years of VIX & RIPE 63 in Vienna
On the evening of 2 November 2011, the Vienna Internet eXchange celebrated its 15th anniversary in the atmospheric "Porgy & Bess" Jazz & Music Club. Highlight of the evening was a "Tribute to Joe Zawinul" concert, performed by the Joe W. Quartet. Peter Wienerroither captured the celebration photographically (see the photo gallery). Thanks for that! For the financial support of this beautiful evening we would like to thank:
On the occasion of its 15th anniversary the VIX also sponsored the RIPE 63 Meeting, which was held from 31 October to 4 November 2011 in Vienna. 465 guests from all over the world attended this congress at the Hilton Hotel. The main focus of the conference was on IPv6.
The glamorous highlight was the Gala Dinner on 3 November 2011 in the impressive ballroom of the Vienna City Hall. After dinner, the international guests were invited to practice the typical Viennese waltz. Well-known Thomas Schäfer-Elmayer himself offered guidance and advice. The fully packed dance floor and the delight about this unique experience were a joy to behold, as you can see in our photo gallery.
A heart-felt "Thank you!" to Renate Kreil for her support and efforts in organizing this perfect evening!
2010: 20 Years of Internet in Austria
In June 2010, the University of Vienna - together with cooperation partners including the Vienna Internet eXchange - organized a two-day, top-class event on the occasion of the anniversaries "20 Years of Internet in Austria" and "20 Years of ACOnet Infrastructure".
All details, presentations, photos and videos can be found on the ACOnet website.
2006: 10 Years of VIX
On 23 November 2006, about 300 guests celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Vienna Internet eXchange with us in the magnificent ambience of the Vienna Stock Exchange. Addresses to the audience were given by Georg Chytil (ISPA), Peter Rastl (University of Vienna / VIX), Job Witteman (AMS-IX) and Serge Radovcic (Euro-IX).
The excellent buffet was provided by M*eventcatering and rounded off by a selection of fine red wines of PinBologna. Erwin Loskott on the piano, Gigga Neunteufel as special guest "Bertha Zuckerkandl", and Nina Reisinger and Ute Weiß with a fascinating light show were additionally helping us to get into a good mood.
We owe the tombola prizes primarily to Foundry Networks, Siemens, Telekom Austria and eTel. The first prize, a London weekend for two, was donated by Silver Server. The best photos of the evening can be found in our photo gallery - thanks to Peter Wienerroither for taking pictures!
We would like to thank everyone who contributed to this great event - in particular our partners and sponsors:
