IPv6 at VIX

Since January 1st, 2005 IPv6 at VIX has production status, ie. the connection agreement applies to IPv6 traffic as it does to IPv4 traffic.

The IPv6 address of each member has a specific syntax, as follows:

16 Bit AS Nummer

32 Bit AS Nummer

  • 2001:7f8:30:0::/64 is the assigned prefix
  • x represents the location (1 for UniVie at NIG, 2 for InterXion)
  • y represents the consecutive numbering for your routers at each location starting with 1
  • z represents the AS Number as decimal number
  • /64 is the prefix-length

E.g. The address of the VIX Service Router within AS1120 at UniVie is 2001:7f8:30:0:1:1:0:1120/64

If your current VIX-Router is already IPv6-aware, please assign the IPv6 address according to the syntax above to your standard VIX-Interface to enable IPv6 peerings. Please send us your IPv6 peering ip-address to noc(at) to save your ipv6 address in our database (which handles route servers, peering matrix and more).
