Review of 2009

Looking back at 2009 the Vienna Internet eXchange followed a favorable trend.

 

In 2009 the VIX increased its number of participants to 110 and is pleased to welcome the following new participants:

• Akamai International B.V.
• CZ.NIC, z.s.p.o
• ISPpro Internet KG
• Itelsì Srl
• ITSV GmbH
• Microsoft Corpration
• Raiffeisen Informatik GmbH
• WIND Telecommunicazioni S.p.A.
• World4You Internet Services GmbH

Over the year the VIX could denote a traffic growth from ~20Gbit/sec to ~30Gbit/sec (daily maximum) with the highest peak in the beginning of December (30,5Gbit/sec).

One noteworthy milestone in 2009 was the start of the „Routeserver beta Project“ which will significantly simplify peering at the Vienna Internet eXchange.
Besides a new concept of the VIX database was established which is the foundation for the further development of new services.

Concluding a successful year a VIX Technical Workshop for information exchange was organized and attracted a high participant attendance rate.
